Mr., Mrs. Cortese celebrate 50th during cruise

TALLAHASSEE, FLA.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph D. Cortese of Tallahassee, Fla., formerly of Liberty Township, celebrated the 50th anniversary of their April 30,1960, wedding during a cruise to the western Caribbean.
They were accompanied on the cruise by their daughter, Dr. Juliann Cortese; their son-in-law, John Campana; and their grandchildren, Joelie and Jace.
Mr. Cortese and the former Claire Sozio were married on that date at St. Edward Church. They lived in the Youngstown area and were active in the Youngstown Playhouse and Oakland Center for the Arts before moving to Florida in 2006.
Mr. Cortese graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in accounting and worked as a CPA for Reali, Giampetro and Scott until retiring in 2001. A former U.S. Navy Seabee, he served as a Liberty Township Clerk and as Liberty Township Building Committee Chairman, overseeing the Liberty Township Hall in the 1970s.
Mrs. Cortese graduated with a degree in education from YSU, where she was an instructor in the business department in the 1960s. She also was a teacher at the John F. Kennedy High School in Warren, prior to retiring in 2003.
