Nicholas John Bodnark, a member of Troop 184, Austintown, recently received his Eagle Scout Award, Boy Scouting’s highest rank, at a court-of-honor ceremony at St. Christine Church, Youngstown.
Nicholas is a son of John and Mary Ann Bodnark of Austintown.
His Eagle Scout service project involved landscaping a 4,800-square-foot area of Austintown Township Park. He cleared and landscaped the area, planted trees and perennials and provided a rest area for park walkers and a seating area to view the nearby baseball field. Family members, friends and scouts of Troop 184 assisted.
Nicholas began his Scouting career as a Cub Scout with Pack 22 and earned the Arrow of Light Award from Pack 40 before crossing into Boy Scouts with Troop 22 from Youngstown. He then took on the charge to help start the new Scout Troop 184 from Austintown, where he serves as an assistant scoutmaster.
Nicholas earned 26 merit badges and also had the positions of troop historian, den chief, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader and junior assistant scoutmaster.
He also received numerous awards including Junior Leadership Award, COPE 2-year certificate, Pipestone 2-year Seven Ranges Camp Honors Award, the Paul Bunyan Woodsman Award and Good Turn for America patch.
He is a senior at Austintown Fitch High School, where he is a member of the Key Club and National Honor Society. He was a member of the track team and Ping Pong Club and has played soccer for the Austintown Junior Soccer League for 12 years. Nicholas will attend Ohio State University in the fall and was accepted into its Engineering Scholars Program.
DOCTORS
Kristina L. Mines recently graduated from Duquesne University’s Mylan School of Pharmacy, where she received her doctor of pharmacy degree.
She is the daughter of Richard and Mary Mines of Vienna and is a 2004 graduate of Mathews High School.
Mines was a member of the Duquesne Tamburitzans for two years. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association of Student Pharmacists and has accepted a position with a Target pharmacy in Pittsburgh.
