STATE TRACK | Fitch's Tolich, Poland's Balzano add titles
Fitch junior Ali Tolich won a Division I discus title and Poland senior Robert Balzano captured a 400-meter dash title in Division II at Saturday's state meet in Columbus.
Tolich's win gives the Valley a clean sweep in the discus this weekend. Poland senior Allison Rice (Division II) and McDonald senior Joh'Vonnie Mosley (Division III) captured state titles on Friday.
Balzano won in a school record time of 47.80, not far from the state record of 47.22 set by Dayton Roth's Laron Brown in 1982. About an hour later, Balzano anchored the winning 4x400 relay. He ran with seniors Brian Ciccone, Ryan Storkel and Luke Wollet.
The three join Canfield senior Dustin Brode (Division I shot put) and Columbiana senior Nick Melone (Division III 100) as area state champions on Saturday. The Valley has nine state titles so far this weekend.
