STATE TRACK | Canfield's Brode sets state shot put record

Canfield senior Dustin Brode broke the state shot put record with a throw of 71 feet, 7 1/2 inches to win the Division I title at Saturday's meet in Columbus.

Brode, a Harvard University recruit, tied the record of 71-6 1/4 earlier in the year. The mark is a record for all divisions and includes all outdoor meets, not just the state meet.

He joins Columbiana senior Nick Melone (Division III 100-meter dash) as the area's two state champions thus far today. Fitch senior Ali Tolich was a heavy favorite to win the Division I discus title after throwing 154-7 on her first throw of the day.
