The Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, is registering children for summer activities at Camp JCC. It consists of 10 weeks of summer fun offered in one-week, affordable sessions.
Summer camp is for children in grades one to five and offers swimming, tennis, basketball, aerobics, dance, volleyball, soccer and much more. Campers also can go horseback-riding, attend art camp and take field trips to Mill Creek Park, Pioneer Waterland and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
Adventure Camp is for children in grades six to eight and also offers swimming, tennis, basketball and fitness. Campers also will take cooking classes, explore the science of roller coasters and create a summer-camp movie. Adventure campers can take field trips to Hershey Park and Cedar Point, go white-water rafting at Ohiopyle State Park and take in a Pittsburgh Pirates game.

Fatal crash

A 20-year-old Boardman woman was killed in a traffic crash early Friday at Market Street and Falls Avenue.
Based on an autopsy by Dr. Joseph Ohr, Mahoning County deputy coroner, the coroner’s office said Melissa Hanna, of Hillman Way, died of blunt-force injuries to her head in the 1:06 a.m. crash.
A police report said the car Hanna owned and drove, a white two-door 1995 Dodge, was split in half in the crash. The other car was a black two-door 2001 Honda Civic, owned and driven by Andrew Wilson, 21, of Palmetto Drive, who was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. Police said they were unable to speak to Wilson. The complete crash report was not available late Friday afternoon.
School theft

Police responded to a call around 8:45 a.m. Thursday at the site of the new Girard junior/senior high school, 1244 Shannon Road, where a theft occurred between 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday.
One hundred copper fittings from a storage locker on the first floor on the west side of the complex were taken. The fittings were a “propress” model, T-shaped with Viega stamped on the side. The value is $1,000. Also reported was a theft of tools and toolboxes and specialized knee pads, valued at $1,000.
Girard meters

Jerry Lambert, city service director, announced that the water department will be sending meter readers throughout the Girard water district to read meters. Readers will have proper identification.
Cancer fundraisers
Now through June 23, 45 Northeast Ohio Bob Evans locations are helping the American Cancer Society raise funds for the society’s signature event, Relay For Life.
Area Bob Evans locations partnering with the society are the Alliance restaurant, 2501 W. State St., and the Salem restaurant, 2299 E. State St.
Also, participating Bob Evans restaurants will host a Community Fun Night on June 17 during regular business hours. Bob Evans will donate 15 percent of sales back to the cancer society when the Community Fun Night flier is presented at time of purchase. Fliers may be downloaded at www.relayforlife.org.
