Niles, Girard seek public input on plans

Public hearings will take place in Niles and Girard to encourage public input on the 2010 Community Development Block Grant Community Development and Neighborhood Revitalization programs.

Niles will have its hearing at 4:30 p.m. June 21 at the Niles Police Department, 15 East State Street, Niles, regarding its proposal to spend $394,000.

Girard will have a public hearing at 4:30 p.m. June 22 at the Girard Municipal Building, second floor, 100 West Main Street, Girard regarding its proposal to spend $357,000.

Both communities are proposing to use the money for building demolitions, flood and drainage facilities, parks and recreation facilities; improvements to sidewalks, sewers and streets; and fair-housing activities, said Julie Green, grants coordinator for the Trumbull County Planning Commission in Warren.

The CDBG program and Neighborhood Revitalization program are federally funded but administered by the Ohio Department of Development.
