Track and Field Day the Market Street way

Music blared in the background as students challenged each other to a series of physical events.
Market Street Elementary sponsored its first Track and Field Day May 27 where students put their physical abilities to the test. Boardman High students and PTO members volunteered to help coordinate the day of fun.
Students rotated through seven stations including snow cone relays, a bean bag toss, potato sack racing, “bouncy ball” racing, parachute activities, wet sponge racing and a refreshment station with water and popsicles.
This is physical education teacher Matt Cuse’s first year at Market Street. He implemented Track and Field Day to reinforce what was already being taught during his gym classes.
“We wanted to try something different,” Cuse said. “Each station deals with agility, speed, coordination or endurance.
Kindergartners and first-graders participated in the event May 27 while second and third-graders had their turn Wednesday.
