St. Pius X campus of Notre Dame School closes

WARREN

After 49 years as a Catholic school on the Northwest Side, the St. Pius X campus of the Notre Dame School on Moncrest Drive completed its final day of its final year Thursday.

The students and their families marked the last day with a program that portrayed the history of the school.

The Rev. William Loveless, pastor of St. Pius X Parish, said the space used by the school probably will be leased to another educational facility.

The school began in September 1961 and has offered various grades over the years.

There were six Warren-area Catholic schools serving students in kindergarten through grade 8 in the 1960s, but consolidations have reduced that to two next year — the Blessed Sacrament campus on Reeves Road and the middle school at the John F. Kennedy High School campus.
