By the numbers
As of Thursday, the Ohio Department of Health has confirmed rabies in six bats, two raccoons, and one skunk. Here are the numbers of confirmed rabies cases in animals in 2010, 2009 and 2008 for the tri-county area and the state.
Columbiana County: 2008, none; 2009, 1 bat and 1 raccoon; 2010, none.
Mahoning County: 2008, none; 2009, 1 bat; 2010, 1 raccoon.
Trumbull County: 2008, 1 each bat, raccoon and coyote; 2009, none; 2010, none.
Ohio
2008: 55 bats, 5 raccoons; 3 skunks; 1 coyote; total, 64.
2009: 43 bats; 1 raccoon; 3 skunks; total, 47.
2010: 6 bats; 1 raccoons; 1 skunk; total, 8.
