Two Canfield High School students competed at Vienna Cougar’s Junior Rifle Team Award Night for indoor competitions including league, regional and national competitions.

Sophomore Bill Magnuson and junior Ryan Hazlett shot 22-caliber Olympic-style rifles and air rifles competitively. The shooters earned the distinguished “expert” qualification from the NRA. Magnuson received several awards, including national match winner in the NRA Venture Crew junior division, first intermediate junior for 2009 Ohio State junior Olympic championships, team match winner with the state championship team, male state champion in Air Rifle, team match winner for state championship air rifle, high kneeling score for league tournament, third in intermediate junior sectional, fourth in national junior sectional and bronze medal for national junior sectional.

Hazlett received the following awards: second place in national senior division NRA Venture Crew, third place for 2009 Ohio State junior Olympic championships, team match winner for the state championship team, bronze medal winner in USA shooting junior Olympics, high standing position, league tournament, first place in four-position national junior sectional, member of the winning team for the three-position national junior sectional, silver medal in the three-position national junior sectional and a gold medal for air rifle national junior sectional.
