As it has for decades, the Cardinal Pride Marching Band provided patriotic music for the annual Canfield Memorial Day parade Monday.
The memorial service was held and sponsored by the Canfield American Legion Post 177 and the War Vet Museum. Col. Robbie Roberts of the 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Warren Air Reserve Station gave the keynote address.
Following the American Legion Color Guard, the band led the parade to the Canfield East Cemetery and back to the War Vet museum. This was the last marching performance for the graduating 2010 band seniors and included the current eighth-grade band members who will be freshmen in the fall.
Band parent volunteers handed out over 500 bottles of water to the kids throughout the service and parade as they were standing in the sun in temperatures that neared 88 degrees.
The Canfield Band Parents provide support for the band members and the various band programs year-round and are a vital part of the success of our schools’ band programs.
The Cardinal Pride Marching Band can next be seen at the Fourth of July parade in Canfield July 5, followed by the Canfield Fair grandstand show Sept. 2.
The 2010 marching season officially kicks off with the Canfield Band Night Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Canfield High School.
All of these performance dates and others can be found on the band’s website: www.canfieldbands.com.
