The Boardman High School Maria Montessori Chapter of the Italian National Honor Society recently inducted 14 students and one honorary member.

The 14 students were selected by the advisors based on grade point average, achievement in Italian courses and an essay written in Italian.

The students were honored at the induction ceremony held at Boardman High School. Many former honorary members, school officials and parents of the inductees attended the ceremony.

Boardman High School has the only chapter of the Italian National Honor Society in Ohio. The chapter was started 13 years ago by Italian teachers Maddalena Amero, Bernice Mazzella and Miss Eleanor Sacco, who continue to be advisors along with Mary Ann Keifer and Liliana McElhaney.

The 2010 inductees are Ashley Aldan, Lindsey Basile, Sam Cambouris, Megan Chambers, Jenna Corroto, Philip Hall, Jamie Jones, Mark Leone, Michael Slavens, Matthew Smaldino, Mary Smrek, Hannah Struharik, Kelsey Tokarsky and Amanda Volosin.

Every year, an honorary member is selected based on his or her contribution to the Italian language and culture. This year, Vincent Campana, also known as Vince “Camp” on the radio, was selected for his love and promotion of Italian language and culture through songs on the radio.

The ceremony was run by the senior members of La Societ Onoraria Italica. They include Anthony Borzi, Nicole Davis, Erica Detate, Greg Ferenchak, Sarah Garwood, Mario Leone, Kelley Manning, Jeana McEvey and Gina Palagano.
