The Mahoning County commissioners board meeting scheduled for 10 a.m. today in the basement of the county courthouse has been canceled.

Stun gun in school

YOUNGSTOWN

Police said an assistant principal confiscated an electronic stun gun from a fifth-grade boy at the Odyssey: School of Possibilities at 940 Bryn Mawr Ave. around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The police report didn’t indicate anyone was threatened or injured. The boy was given a summons for disorderly conduct and released into the custody of his grandmother, police said.

The Eastgate Regional Council of Governments finance/executive committee will meet at about 11 a.m. today after the council’s Technical Advisory Committee meeting in City Centre One, 100 E. Federal St., Suite 1000.

Local channels stuck

Time-Warner Cable customers in the Mahoning Valley got a frozen screen for the local channels Wednesday because of a technical problem. The problem, which did not affect other channels, persisted for about an hour. Service was restored by 1 p.m., according to Travis Reynolds, Time Warner spokesman.

Scouting car wash

Members of Boy Scouts of America, Troop 2 at Poland United Methodist Church are marking the 100th anniversary of Scouting with a car wash.

Troop 2 Scoutmaster Rod Emerson has challenged troop members to wash at least 100 cars in recognition of the 100 years of Scouting being celebrated this year. Donations will be accepted. Money will go to Poland United Methodist Church as a thank-you for sponsoring the troop.

The car wash will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the church, 1940 Boardman-Poland Road.

$12,000 fire damage

YOUNGSTOWN

Fire of undetermined origin routed the resident of a home at 741 LaClede Ave. just after 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire officials said Napolean Howell was able to get out of the house safely. The fire was reported by cell phone, and flames were visible in the second floor of the structure when crews arrived, officials said. The blaze started in the attic and did an estimated $12,000 in damage.

Counterfeit money

Police said the owner of the Gateway Gas Mart at 1231 Market St. reported collecting $280 in counterfeit bills from customers over a three-day period.

The money was turned over to authorities Tuesday.

Police said a cashier at the station wrote down the license-plate number of the driver who gave the station a phony $50 bill. That information was given to detectives.
