The Alzheimer’s Association – Greater East Ohio Area Chapter’s Community Council, a group of area professionals who have joined forces to increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and provide effective support and knowledge to individuals diagnosed with dementia and their caregivers, is presenting a free education program at 2 p.m. June 10 at Grace Hospice and Visiting Physician Officer, 7206 Market St., Suite B. Awareness day

An Allergy and Asthma Awareness Day is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 11 at St. Joe’s at the Mall next to Sears. The event includes a free spirometry screening by Dr. Francisco Cano and his staff, who will review the results with each participant. Spirometry measures the amount and/or flow of air that can be inhaled and exhaled, and is an important tool used in assessing asthma.

A new video by Dr. Geoffrey Putt, director of parenting and family support services at Akron Children’s Hospital, discusses the importance of toilet training in a child’s development and offers parents strategies to help ensure a smooth transition. Dr. Putt advises parents on how to tell if their child is ready for toilet training and how incentives help reinforce a good bathroom routine. A blessing and dedication for the new location of the St. Joseph Community Care Center, 1296 Tod Place, will be at 12:30 p.m. June 10. The St. Joseph Community Care Center is located in the same building as St. Joseph Minor Emergency and Diagnostic Center.
The Trumbull County Prescription Assistance Program also has relocated to this site.
Special class

During National CPR/AED Awareness Week, now through Monday, the American Red Cross is offering a special class for those unable, untrained, or unwilling to perform full CPR in the event of sudden cardiac arrest. The American Red Cross Mahoning Chapter, 8392 Tod Ave., Boardman, is offering “CPR Simple” (hands-only CPR) at the chapter for several days. The fee is $11. Classes are: Thursday, 7:30-9 a.m.; Friday, 5:30-7 p.m.; Saturday, 9-10:30 a.m.; Sunday, 12:30-2 p.m.; Monday , 8-9:30 a.m. and 5-6:30 p.m. To register, call 330-726-6063 or go to www.mahoning.redcross.org.
Jump Stretch

American Red Cross Mahoning Chapter, 8392 Tod Ave., is offering a presentation by Coach Dick Hartzell of his nationally known Jump Stretch program June 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the chapter house. He will demonstrate and train participants in his techniques for treating sprained ankles and other common injuries suffered by athletes. As an introductory offer and in support of American Red Cross Disaster Services, Hartzell will conduct the program, valued at $275 per participant, for only $200 each. The fee includes his book,”Don’t Ice That Ankle Sprain!,” a DVD, and two stretch bands.Pre-registration is required.
