No charges planned in Warren fatal accident

WARREN

Police say no criminal charges are planned against a 56-year-old Howland man whose car hit and killed a 24-year-old pedestrian at just after midnight on Tuesday.

William P. Cole of Grant Street Southwest died after being taken to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

Thomas A. Stefan of 1319 Howland Wilson Road was driving westbound on Atlantic Street when his car struck Cole near the intersection of Atlantic and Vine Avenue Northeast at about 12:49 a.m.

Stefan told police that Cole came out into the street in front of him without giving him time to avoid hitting him.

Cole was struck in the middle of the westbound lane, and the contact pushed him into the far northwestern part of the intersection.

There was no stop sign in the intersection requiring Stefan to stop. Sfefan was not injured.

Police believe Sfefan was driving the 25 mile-per-hour speed limit.
