A woman and her daughter are in critical condition after their car collided with a box truck.

Capt. Harry Wolfe of the Boardman Fire Department said the accident happened around 10 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. Route 224 and Tippecanoe Road.

Trooper Jose Reyes, of the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Canfield, said the accident occurred when Sue-anna M. Kyle, 53, of Canfield, was driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser east on U.S. Route 224 and attempted to turn left onto Tippecanoe Road.

Reyes said she turned in front of the truck driven by Jonathan Hough of Boardman, who was headed west on 224.

Reyes said that because no one saw what happened, OSHP doesn’t know for certain if Kyle had a green arrow or if she failed to yield on a green light.

Hough told troopers at the scene that he had a green light at the intersection, Reyes said.

“It seems the PT Cruiser possibly failed to yield and turned right into the box truck,” he said. “We won’t know that until we talk to her.”

Wolfe said the fire department had to cut Kyle and her daughter, who wasn’t identified by troopers, from their vehicle.

Kyle’s daughter suffered a crushed pelvis and other injuries, Reyes said, but he didn’t know the extent of Kyle’s injuries.

They were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown and were in critical condition Tuesday afternoon, Reyes said.

He said Hough, who suffered injuries to his ribs, declined transportation to the hospital and went on his own.
