Poland swimmers’ comeback just short

Neighbors | Submitted.Poland Swim Club swimmer Mirhanda VanScoter showed off her backstroke technique at the June 30 meet against the Boardman Tennis and Swim Club..BTSC defeated PSC by 27 points.

The Poland Swim Club girls surged ahead of the Boardman Tennis and Swim Club girls with a 137 to 112 advantage but it wasn’t enough to defeat BTSC at the June 30 swim meet.

The final score was BTSC 259, PSC 232, a difference of 27 points.

Three swimmers earned multiple first-place honors in the girls 8-year-old division. Lucy Graziano earned first place in the 100-meter medley relay, helping her team achieve a time of 1:39. She also won the 25-meter butterfly with a time of 22.15.

Carly Ungaro and Nicole Rotunno were members of the 100-meter relay that came in first with a time of 1:39. Ungaro also earned first place in the 25-meter breaststroke with a time of 26.15. Rotunno took first in the 25-meter freestyle with a time of 21.96.

In the boys 9 to 10-year-old division, two swimmers earned multiple victories. Colin Barrett and Paul Graziano were part of the 100-meter medley that took first place with a time of 1:31.13.

Barrett took first in the 25-meter backstroke with a time of 21.53. Graziano won the 25-meter breaststroke in 21.72 and the 25-meter butterfly in 17.88.

Taylor Tofil and Gina Ungaro earned several first place wins for the 11 to 12-year-old division.

Tofil and Ungaro were part of the 200-meter medley team that took first in 2:38.81. Ungaro also took first in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 29.87.

Tofil won the 50-meter backstroke in 35.34 and the 50-meter butterfly in 32.87.

Joey Boniface earned a couple of first-place wins for the boys 15 to 18-year-old division. He won the 50-meter freestyle in 56.66 and the 50-meter backstroke in 32.0 seconds.
