Library hosts pirates and princesses

Canfield children's librarian Jane Adams read books with a pirate theme to children July 20. The event, Princesses and Pirates, included games, crafts and a scavenger hunt.

Pirates and princesses took over the Canfield Library July 20, as Valley kids dressed the part for a summer reading program.

The library hosted a Princesses and Pirates story time for kids of all ages. Participants showed up dressed in their favorite pirate or princess costume. The story time included a book reading from children’s librarian Jane Adams, pirate jokes from SpongeBob SquarePants, a scavenger hunt, a catapult competitions and frog kissing.

For the arts and crafts portion, boys decorated pirate hats, while the girls decorated crowns. More than 30 kids attended the summer reading program.

The next summer reading event, “I Got Hooked on a Book” is Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. The event is a library-style beach party with reading and crafts for all ages.
