The Austintown library was the home for more than 30 fish made by eco-friendly children during a Green Team craft exercise July 22.

The library sponsored a program from the Mahoning County Green Team and Youngstown Litter Control for students entering kindergarten through fifth grade. It focused primarily on littering and how it harms the environment.

Green Team Educator Peg Flynn hosted the event and talked to the children about how trash and careless acts affect marine life. She read the book, “One Less Fish” which explained what happens to fish when careless acts are performed.

As a craft activity, kids made fish from old CDs and scrap paper. The fish, made of recycled materials, were intended to remind children to always recycle and never litter.
