Lives reconstructed: After traveling to Ghana with five surgical nurse volunteers to perform reconstructive surgeries and to teach local doctors the procedures, Dr. Michael K. Obeng, at right, a plastic surgeon at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, spoke of his experiences during a meeting of Youngstown Rotary Club. Obeng, also the founder and CEO of R.E.S.T.O.R.E. Worldwide Inc., told how the reconstructive procedures helped the poor with congenital or accidental deformities, who were shunned by families and the public, to become contributing citizens of Ghana. Obeng holds academic appointments at several institutions, including NEOCOM at Rootstown and the University of Pittsburgh. Sharing a moment with the speaker is Steve Kristen, Rotary Club president.
