It was literally all “fun and games” at the Austintown library July 19, as it hosted a board games night as part of the summer reading program.
Hayley McEwing, the planner of the event, as well as the children’s librarian for Austintown, wanted to create an event to please kids and parents alike.
“The game stations I’ve set up — word games, dice games, “I Spy” games and paper games — were planned to be engaging for the whole family, but aimed toward the imaginations of K-6 aged kids.”
The word game and “I Spy” stations included many books from Austintown’s own library collection, so that the children could get acquainted with the literature. For the children involved in Austintown’s summer reading program, the half-hour event actually took a full hour off their summer reading requirement.
After the children covered all four stations, McEwing played music and set up a game she called Pirate Bowling, where the children had to knock down pins with pirate ships.
After four games, Jada Thomas announced that it was her “absolute favorite of the night.”
