Scrappers split with Jammers

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers earned a split of a doubleheader against the Jamestown Jammers.

The first game, a 4-2 Scrappers win, was the continuation of a Wednesday’s game, which was called in the third inning due to rain. The Scrappers (15-25) scored three runs in the seventh inning and had seven hits to overpower the Jammers (22-16) who are in third place in the New York-Penn Legue’s Pinckney Division. The Scrappers are in last place.

Kevin Fontanez homered and had three RBIs.

The Scrappers were blanked, 3-0 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Jamestown scored one run in the first inning, and two more in the second to hold on. Harold Brantley, James Wooster and Wilfredo Gimenez each had a double for Jamestown, and Ryan Fisher had a triple.

Jordan Cooper lost his third game of the year, allowing six hits in four innings. Cooper (1-3) had five strikeouts and no walks. But he allowed two earned runs.

The first came on Fisher’s triple, which plated Brantley, who had hit his double earlier in the inning.

The other two runs came in the second inning when Wooster’s double brought around Gimenez for an RBI. Brantley grounded into a fielder’s choice, which scored Aaron Dudley, for the other run.
