Chamber gets share of federal economic development funds

Two Northeast Ohio economic-development agencies are set to receive $460,000 in federal funding, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th, announced Friday.

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services includes $250,000 for the Youngstown/

Warren Regional Chamber and $210,000 for NorTech, a Cleveland-based nonprofit that focuses on developing technology industries in Northeast Ohio, Ryan, a member of the House Committee on Appropriations, said in a press release.

The funds for the chamber will go toward its international business-

attraction program, which aims to help the Valley’s small businesses compete globally in industries such as renewable energy, rail manufacturing and

business-to-business software.

The NorTech funds will be used for the organization’s Energy Enterprise Collaborations, an initiative that aims to grow an advanced energy cluster in the region.
