Boardman team defeated

ELYRIA

North Canton had too much firepower and too much pitching and, in short, was “a very strong team,” according to Boardman manager Frank Beato, whose all-star team was eliminated from the state 11-12-year-old Little League tournament, 13-2, on Thursday.

North Canton led 6-0 before Boardman pulled within 7-3 in the third. However, North Canton (3-1) had a six-run outburst in the fourth inning.

Boardman, which finished third in the tournament, only had two hits — singles by Lou Cardona and Alex Duda.

Cardona’s hit came in the second inning, while Duda’s was in the third when he drove home Trent Humphreys and Jack Lynch to ignite Boardman’s three-run inning.

Boardman advanced to Elyria by winning the District 2 tournament.

“Their tournament performance was very satisfying and the kids have nothing to put their head down for,” said Frank Beato.

North Canton will play unbeaten Hamilton for the championship today.
