UAW Local 1714 marks 40th year
Staff report
LORDSTOWN
Forty years ago, when the United Auto Workers Local 1714 was chartered, its members were stamping out metal parts for GM Lordstown’s Vega and other GM cars under the name Fisher Body Plant.
Today, its 1,300 members are preparing for full production of the Chevrolet Cruze at a building known as Lordstown West.
For one day this Saturday, the union will take a look back at its history with a 40th anniversary celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the union hall, 2121 Salt Springs Road.
“We realized that a lot of people have supported us over the years, and we want them to know that it is open to the public,” Dave Green, president of the local, said of the event.
Among the activities are a raffle for a Cruze, a disc jockey, bounce-around for the kids, cornhole toss, dunk tank and softball game.
