Actress Susan Lucci working on memoir

NEW YORK

It’s a breakthrough for Susan Lucci. No, not a second Emmy. She has a book deal. It Books said Wednesday that the longtime star of “All My Children” has a memoir coming out next year.

Her book currently is untitled. It will cover her role as Erica Kane on the daytime soap and her years as a stage performer. Of course, she’ll also talk about snagging an Emmy in 1999 after years of falling short.

CBS pits youth vs. age on next ‘Survivor’

LOS ANGELES

“Survivor” is going to exploit the generation gap. CBS says the upcoming edition of the CBS reality show “Survivor: Nicaragua” will divide contestants into two tribes, young vs. old — with “old” defined as starting at 40 for the so-called Espada Tribe.

The La Flor Tribe will be made up of people 30 and younger. The elders will have the chance to demonstrate that their experience and knowledge can help them best the “youth and vitality” of the younger crew, CBS said Wednesday.

“Survivor: Nicaragua” will debut at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, returning to the time slot in which “Survivor” first premiered in summer 2000.

Rare 3-D film shows Warsaw devastated

WARSAW, Poland

Polish historians have created an unusual 3-D film that documents the shocking sea of rubble that Warsaw was reduced to during World War II.

Jan Oldakowski, the director of the Warsaw Uprising Museum, says it is meant mainly for young people who do not realize the degree to which Poland’s capital was destroyed from 1939 to 1945.

He said Wednesday that it took 40 specialists and two years to make the five-minute aerial-view sequence that documents the city’s 1944 doomed struggle against the occupying Nazi Germans. It will be shown at the museum.

What’s Jay-Z’s state of mind over spoof?

LONDON

An online parody of a Jay-Z hit that swaps New York’s metropolis for a modest Welsh port town has won hundreds of thousands of fans, the director of the spoof said Wednesday. The video “Newport (Ymerodraeth State of Mind),” a comic tribute to Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ 2009 single “Empire State of Mind,” has been viewed more than 1.65 million times on You Tube and drawn praise for its witty lyrics. Ymerodraeth is the Welsh word for empire.

MJ Delaney, a 24-year-old filmmaker, shot a near frame-by-frame re-creation of the original music video, but in the less glamorous surroundings of the south Wales city — about 140 miles west of London.
