County’s financial support of event remains minimal

LISBON
The Columbiana County Commissioners and the Columbiana Fair Board have been very complimentary of each other even though the county’s financial support of the fair has been minimal of late.
Penny Traina, the president of the commissioners, said the commissioners will be meeting with the fair board members today. The 165th annual county fair begins Monday.
She said of the fair board: “They do a great job. They are to be commended.”
The commissioners did not provide any county funds to the fair in either 2009 or 2010, Traina said.
Whether there will be county funds for the fair next year remains to be seen.
Still, John Wolf, the president of the fair board, said, “The commissioners have been very supportive.”
The county pays the rent for the office of the Cooperative Extension Service but does not provide any money for personnel and costs.
There will be a baked- goods sale at 8 p.m. Monday at the Arts and Crafts Building to raise money for 4-H programs.
