U.S. marshals alerted township police that they had arrested Khaleb Y. Bonner, 20, of the 2900 block of Biscayne in Youngstown at 2:45 p.m. Monday. He was wanted on charges of felonious assault, aggravated burglary, two counts of drug abuse and a warrant arrest. He was taken to Liberty Police Department for booking. At the police station, 16 bags of suspected cocaine and a bag of suspected marijuana were found on Bonner. He was arraigned Tuesday in Girard Municipal Court; he is in Trumbull County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Hubbard Twp. fire

Seven people, three adults and four children, escaped unharmed after a fire about 11 p.m. Tuesday damaged their home in the 3600 block of Homewood Avenue in Hubbard Township. Chief John Clemente of Eagle Joint Fire District said a camping trailer between two houses caught fire, and the house on the north side of the trailer was gutted. West Middlesex and Coitsville fire departments assisted with tankers.

Clemente said the cause and damage estimate are undetermined.

A Hubbard firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.

Cops seeking Latimer

Police are looking for Phillip R. Latimer, 22, of Youngstown, on a charge of aggravated menacing. About 9:15p.m. Tuesday, police were called to Vintage Village trailer park, 6622 Belmont Ave., where Latimer had been removed from the premises earlier this week. Police said office staff and residents told them that Latimer had threatened to “burn down the whole park.”

Indicted in crash death

LISBON

Rikki S. Wheatley III, 20, of Mechanistown, has been indicted by a Columbiana County grand jury on a charge of aggravated-vehicular homicide in an accident Nov. 19, 2009.

Popular West Branch teacher Jennifer L. Baker, 33, of Kensington, died in the accident while driving south on Rochester Road about 8:38 a.m. that day.

Wheatley also was charged with aggravated-vehicular assault because of injuries to Baker’s son, Jacob, age 7. Another one of Baker’s children was in the crash but apparently was not seriously injured.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Wheatley was driving north on Rochester Road, went left of center and hit Baker’s vehicle head-on.

Parkview Drive closing

Parkview Drive east of the Y&S Railroad will be closed from 9 a.m. to noon Friday due to the ongoing sanitary-sewer improvements in the Parkview area. City officials have made other arrangements for emergency vehicles. People with questions can call the city manager’s office at 330-482-2484.

Jailed in homicide case

YOUNGSTOWN

A city woman is in Mahoning County jail on $100,000 bond after police say she killed her 64-year-old boyfriend by hitting him with a car.

Kimberly Mack, 46, of Woodford Avenue, appeared for her arraignment Wednesday before Judge Elizabeth Kobly of Youngstown Municipal Court on felony vehicular-homicide charges. The judge set bond at $100,000 and ordered Mack to appear for a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Prosecutors said Mack ran over 64-year-old James Jackson of West Evergreen Avenue, killing him earlier this week, then confessed being behind the wheel when Jackson was hit. Prosecutors told the court Mack has a criminal history that includes theft, falsification, disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana.

Gardens closing Friday

YOUNGSTOWN

Mill Creek MetroParks Fellows Riverside Gardens will be closed to the public beginning at 3 p.m. Friday for the annual Garden Party fundraiser. The theme for this year’s party is “Splashes of Art.” The event is hosted by the Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens. The gardens will reopen at dawn Saturday.

Gun at city hall

YOUNGSTOWN

Caren Craft, 52, of Hartzell Street, is in Mahoning County jail in lieu of $20,000 bond after police say she tried to enter Youngstown City Hall carrying a loaded gun.

Craft appeared for arraignment Wednesday before Judge Elizabeth Kobly on felony charges of carrying a concealed weapon. The judge set Craft’s preliminary hearing for next Wednesday.

Prosecutors said Craft was entering city hall to pay a water bill Tuesday when security found the loaded weapon in her purse. Prosecutors said she has no prior criminal record.

Car crashes into home

Austintown

A 53-year-old Austintown man had to be freed by firefighters after his car crashed into an Ohltown Road home.

Terry Moore was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Around 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, Moore was driving southeast on Ohltown Road, just north of Red Apple Drive, when he swerved off the right side of the road, hitting a mailbox. He then went left of the road and struck a mailbox, tree and house, leaving Moore trapped in the car until Austintown firefighters arrived.

Speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol report.

Corruption charges

YOUNGSTOWN

A city woman is in the county jail in lieu of $20,000 bond after prosecutors say she tried to supply two teens with marijuana.

Michelle Wolford, 20, of Oakwood Avenue, appeared for arraignment Wednesday before Judge Elizabeth Kobly on two felony charges of corrupting another with drugs. The judge set bond at $10,000 on each charge and ordered Wolford not to have any contact with the teens if she posts bond and is released.

South Side squatter

YOUNGSTOWN

Police removed a homeless man from a house on East Philadelphia Street owned by the city Tuesday morning.

According to a police report, Mark Teno, 42, told police he had been living at the South Side house since winter 2009. City officials ruled the dwelling uninhabitable in May 2009.

Teno was found removing scrap aluminum from the home when police arrived at 9:30 a.m. He appeared for arraignment Wednesday in municipal court on charges of criminal trespassing and unauthorized removal. He was released without bond. His preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 8.
