Charles E. Poole, 47, pleaded innocent Tuesday in Warren Municipal Court to felonious assault in the shooting of the boyfriend of his 26-year-old daughter.

The shooting occurred Saturday morning at his daughter’s house on Francis Avenue Southeast.

Poole, of Idlylwild Street Northeast, went to the Warren Police Department on Saturday and confessed shooting the 26-year-old boyfriend a few hours earlier. The shooting occurred about an hour after the boyfriend is accused of beating the daughter; police have not charged him.

Charles Poole won’t comment publicly on the 2:20 a.m. shooting.

Warren detective Wayne Mackey said Tuesday that Charles Poole told him he fired the first shot into the floor and his goal was to get the boyfriend out of his daughter’s house.

Police believe at least two shots were fired that morning, with one of them lodging in the boyfriend’s calf muscle. Three bullet shell casings were found at the scene.
