Lancaster Newspapers owner Caroline Nunan dies

LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — Caroline Steinman Nunan, one of the owners of the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era, has died. She was 85.

Nunan, died Sunday in Lebanon, N.H., the paper reported. She was one of three daughters of late publisher Col. James Hale Steinman and was a director of Steinman Enterprises, the family-run company that owns the paper.

She was a graduate of the Shippen School for Girls in Lancaster, the Greenwood School in Maryland and the Katherine Gibbs School in New York and is survived by one sister, two daughters, and three grandchildren.

Nunan was also a trustee emeritus of Franklin & Marshall College and a director of the Heritage Center of Lancaster County. She was also a founding member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Music and a founder and past president of the Lancaster Summer Arts Festival, the free festival of visual and performing arts that began in 1963.
