Boy, 14, arrested in theft of drugs, snacks

Police were called about 11:45 a.m. Sunday to the 1900 block of Oriel Rogers Road, where an 86-year-old man reported a break-in and the theft of a blue, green and white cooler that contained prescription medications for his wife and him. The burglary, which occurred sometime Saturday night, also involved the theft of various snack cakes.

After tracking by the Liberty police dog to a nearby residence, police arrested a 14-year-old boy, who was taken to Trumbull County Juvenile Center. Police released a 15-year-old boy from Youngstown to his mother. The teens told police that they had found the cooler but would not say how the empty pill bottles got into household trash at the residence. Police found snack cakes and wrappers at the residence.

Charged in robbery

Calls from the public led Warren police to arrest Derrek Binion, 33, of Linda Drive Northwest, on Monday afternoon in the Saturday-morning robbery of a Parkman Road bank branch.

Sgt. Jeff Cole said Binion was picked up at his home about 1:30 p.m. He will be arraigned today in Warren Municipal Court on a charge of aggravated robbery.

A bank teller told police that a man walked into the bank, 2365 Parkman Road, told the teller to be very quiet and give him money while placing his hand on a gun in the waistband of his pants. He wore no mask and was photographed by the bank’s security cameras.

Food Mart robbed

WARREN

Warren Food Mart, 949 W. Market St., was robbed at gunpoint by three men about 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The owner said three men brandishing firearms and wearing masks entered the store and demanded money. They left with money and cigarettes. The robbery was caught on tape, police said.

Rape investigated

Police are investigating the reported rape of an 18-year-old woman early Sunday in a residence on Elmwood Drive. The woman was in the house for a social gathering. She was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
