4-year-old boy falls in Pa. sewer; no major injuries reported
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia police say a 4-year-old boy has escaped major injury after falling into an open sewer while walking down the street.
Officer Christine O’Brien, a police spokeswoman, says it happened around 10 a.m. today in West Philadelphia.
She says the boy was walking down the street, not looking where he was going, when he fell into an open manhole.
He fell about 5 or 6 feet into the sewer, but police say his mother was able to pull him out quickly.
O’Brien says the boy was taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as a precaution, but suffered only minor injuries.
Police say they will notify the city’s Streets Department about the open manhole.
