FRANKLIN, PA.

For the fourth time in the 2010 season, Tri-City Speedway was rained out on Sunday.

The Pro Stock feature from June 27th, which was supposed to be run on July 25th, is now rescheduled for August 8th.

Renteria, Crew beat Houston Dynamo 3-0

COLUMBUS

Emilio Renteria scored a gift goal in the first half and William Hesmer had his second straight shutout and eighth of the season as the Columbus Crew defeated Houston 3-0 late Saturday in Crew Stadium.

Andy Iro scored in the 84th minute and Leandre Griffit, two minutes into his MLS debut, added another in the 90th.

Columbus (10-3-4) is first Eastern Conference. Houston (5-8-4) is 0-4-3 in the past seven games. Renteria took advantage of a blunder by Houston backup goalkeeper Tally Hall in the 34th minute.

Hall backpedaled as he tried to field a ball outside the penalty area and fell. Renteria picked up the loose ball and scored easily.

OTN eliminated

OTN Performance was defeated twice and eliminated in the Colt regional baseball tournament.

Butler Township handed OTN Performance an 8-2 setback as Alex Ziegler banged out three hits and scored while David Tompkins added two hits, three RBIs and a run for Butler.

In eight innings Westview Ross downed OTN, 10-9.

Pirates send down Lincoln, cut Donnelly

PITTSBURGH

The Pittsburgh Pirates have optioned rookie starting pitcher Brad Lincoln to Triple-A Indianapolis and designated veteran right-handed reliever Brendan Donnelly for assignment.

Lincoln (1-4) was sent back to the minors minutes after being roughed up for a fourth consecutive start, allowing six runs and eight hits in 6 1-3 innings of a 6-3 loss to San Diego on Sunday. Lincoln, who has a 6.57 ERA, allowed 17 hits and 13 runs in his last two starts.

Donnelly was 1-3 with a 5.58 ERA in 38 games and was about to start collecting on performance bonuses that would have paid him at least $150,000 for every five appearances.

Spinner, Bestwick win at Dew Tour opener

CHICAGO

Mike Spinner won the BMX park final, England’s Jamie Bestwick won the vert final and 15-year-old Brett Banasiewicz became the youngest BMX athlete to top the podium after winning the dirt final at the Dew Tour’s BMX Open.

The two-day event is being held outside Soldier Field and is the first BMX stop of the 2010 Dew Tour season.

After sitting out most of the last season with an injury, Spinner, from Miami, started the season by earning a score of 92.50. He threw out his signature quadruple tailwhip and a 1080 for his second Dew Tour win of his career.

Bestwick scored a 95.38 with massive alley-oop variations and a turn-down flair.

Maybesomaybenot earns race victory

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.

Maybesomaybenot led from gate to wire to win the $150,000 Sanford Stakes for 2-year-olds Sunday at Saratoga Race Course.

Julien Leparoux rode Maybesomaybenot, who ran six furlongs in 1:10.97 and was 11/2 lengths clear of Nacho Saint. Another Silver Oak was third of seven. Favored Bail Out the Cat was eliminated at the start when he broke awkwardly and well behind the field. A stewards inquiry determined that he was not impeded by the assistant starter.

WVU’s Bob Huggins remains hospitalized

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.

A spokesman for West Virginia’s basketball team says coach Bob Huggins is going to be in the hospital longer than expected.

Bryant Messerly says Huggins was still hospitalized Sunday and is expected to be released in the next “couple days.” He says he does not know if Huggins has experienced complications.

Huggins had been expected to be released Saturday. He broke four broken ribs in a fall in his Las Vegas hotel room Friday.
