Quit beating your public servants

Quit beating your public servants

I have followed with inter- est the letters complaining about the huge salaries and expense accounts of elected officials. Also some writers object to the gold plated benefit and pension plans enjoyed by these “public servants.” I for one see several reasons to defend this practice.

First we want to be sure our leaders are the best and brightest. Those who can convince taxpayers they deserve this largess are surely above average intelligence.

Next the majority of those we elect have a better sense of style than most. Just look at the beautiful (and expensive) wardrobe they appear in. That alone shows how superior to their constituents they are. And look at the homes and motor vehicles they are required to maintain in order to be eligible for the exclusive clubs they golf and party at.

And after many years of being told and treated like they are so much better than those they are charged with serving, it would violate the Constitution’s prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment to deny them anything but the overly generous pension they feel entitled to.
