LOWELLVILLE

Village council has awarded a contract for widening a portion of Ralph Conti Drive, the road that leads into the school district campus off state Route 289.

Council awarded the pact for $94,757 to Butch and McCree Paving of Hillsville, Pa., which submitted the low bid. The money is coming from a state grant, said village Administrator Bill Meehan.

The only other company to bid on the project was Foust Construction Inc. of Youngstown. Its proposal was $98,772.

The contract has four alternate bids attached to it. Three of the alternates are for building three parking lots alongside the road. For alternate A, Butch and McCree bid $27,458.

For alternate B, the company bid $14,415. For alternate C, the company bid $41,654.

Alternate D includes paving on Washington Road. Butch and McCree bid $21,515.

The village is asking the Lowellville Board of Education to help pay for the parking lots.

Anthony Mediate, district treasurer, said the board will decide at a special meeting at 3:30 p.m. today whether to pick up one, two, all or none of the parking lot projects.

Meehan said the village hasn’t decided if it will build any of the parking lots without the school district’s help. He also said council hasn’t decided if it will do the Washington Street paving, but is leaning toward it.
