Reserve to hold driving contest

Staff report

POLAND

Reserve Run Golf Course will hold a qualification event Saturday for the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship.

The event, which is open to all area golfers, is expected to draw long drivers from all over Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

The event begins at 5 p.m. Saturday and will continue until 9. No pre-registration is necessary.

Based on total entries, as many as six Open Division hitters will advance to the Region One Championships this summer at Oakland Beach Golf Club in Conneaut Lake, Pa.

Golfers may enter as many local qualifiers as they’d like. Local entry fees are $40 for six swings.

A total of $450,000 will be awarded to the longest drives at the world finals Oct. 27 thru Nov. 5 at the Mesquite Sports and Event Complex in Mesquite, Nev.

Local and regional qualifying for the remaining five divisions — Super Seniors (50-and-over), Grand Champions (55-and-over), Legends (60-and-over), Masters (65-and-over) and Ladies Divisions) — are not necessary. A one-time entry fee gives competitors in these five divisions a one-way ticket to the finals in Mesquite.

This year’s competition will also feature a doubles tournament, which allows golfers to form two-person teams and win prizes from Dick’s Sporting Goods based on combined drives.

All proceeds from Saturday’s event will go to the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley.
