A hearing is set Aug. 5 in municipal court for a city man charged with numerous traffic violations after police said he led them on a chase through city streets. Police arrested Leonardo Smith, 21, of Kimmel Street, Wednesday evening on Brentwood Avenue.

Police gave chase for more than a mile through the Idora neighborhood on the city’s South Side. According to police, Smith jumped from his vehicle, which they said was moving at 40 mph. Police noted that there were several children and other pedestrians in the area during the chase.

As Smith ran behind his still-moving car, police reported that a gun fell into the middle of the street from his waistband.

He is charged with fleeing and eluding, carrying a concealed weapon, driving under suspension and other traffic violations. Smith also had warrants for traffic violations. He is in Mahoning County jail with bond set at $107,500.

Motorcycle run

AUSTINTOWN

A charity motorcycle run to benefit Noah’s Lost Ark Exotic Animal Sanctuary in Berlin Center is scheduled for Sunday.

Registration is from 10 a.m. to noon at Mike’s Lounge, 5532 Mahoning Ave. in Austintown. The cost is $15 for riders and $10 for passengers. The run ends at Rosetta Stone, 110 W. Federal St., downtown Youngstown.

Those who do not ride motorcycles can still participate by purchasing a ticket for food at Rosetta Stone from 3 to 6 p.m.

Noah’s Lost Ark is a nonprofit organization that rescues abused and neglected exotic animals from around the country. It operates entirely on donations.
