Traditional campers have it all

There is nothing like the old-fashioned summer camp full of crafts, sports and socializing.

The Traditional Day Camp, at D.D. and Velma’s YMCA, is a full-day summer camp for ages 6 through 13. Each week is geared to a specific YMCA value and theme accompanied by a field trip corresponding with the theme.

Trips included visits to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Indians Game, Museum of Labor and Industry and the Vienna Air Force Base.

Day campers swim, play competitive sports, participate in crafts and group activities daily. A newly-implemented feature of the camp is Reach Your Full Potential activities. The daily activities provide campers with the opportunity to explore different skill and learn a new sport, hobby or game.

Poland resident Sophia Thompson said she loves everything about the camp, especially the swimming.

“I have a lot of friends here,” she said. “I hope I can come back next year.”
