Summer camps aren’t just for students on summer break, they are also for kids who are preparing for their first day of class.

Camp Neehi, at the D.D. and Velma YMCA, is a 10-week camp intended to enhance children’s social, cognitive, emotional and language development. It is geared to ages 3 to 5 and focuses on a different theme and YMCA value each week.

Camp Neehi is only a half-day camp, but keeps the kids busy from 9:30 a.m until noon. Each day, campers participate in science, environmental education, singing, story time group games and arts and crafts.

The final activity for the day is open swim in the YMCA’s indoor recreational pool. The pool area has sprinklers, waterfalls and an aquatic jungle gym.

The summer camp began June 14 and will end Aug. 20. For more information, contact Adele Taylor, preschool and family program director, at 330-480-5656 extension 217.
