D.A.R.E. donors score big at Scrappers’ game

Drug Education Officers of Mahoning Valley rewarded residents and businesses that contributed to the D.A.R.E program July 12 at its annual fundraising game at Eastwood Field.

The event featured special guest State of Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray who is responsible for providing drug intervention money to police departments with D.A.R.E. officers. The monies are used to pay 50 percent of the officers’ salaries to teach the D.A.R.E. curriculum in their school district.

This was the eighth year the fundraising event was held at Eastwood Field. Officers from Austintown, Boardman, Canfield, Beaver Township, Springfield Township, MCSO teaching in Jackson-Milton and Western Reserve schools, Green and Goshen Township teaching in West Branch schools and on retired D.A.R.E. officer from the Youngstown Police Department attended the fundraiser.

Students who graduated from the program also received a coupon for two free tickets to attend.
