Curious kids now have a way to safely explore the world around them.

Camp Curiosity, at the D.D. and Velma Davis Family YMCA, offers a fun way to learn about experiments and the arts. It is classified as an art and science enrichment camp. Geared toward ages 6 through 10, the camp is a 10-week program with weekly themes. Some themes include celebrate summer, be a hero, go green and move to the groove.

Each day, curiosity campers are allotted time for socialization, swimming and group activities. The campers rotate through science and art stations each day.

The science activities allow campers to safely experiment, build and dismantle different everyday items. Art activities open the campers up to various forms of art, including mud painting and duct tape sculptures.

Each week focuses on one of the YMCA values which include caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith. Week one began June 14 and the final day of camp is Aug. 20.

Boardman’s Cora Ams, 6, participates in the YMCA’s summer camp each year. This is her first year with Camp Curiosity and is happy with its daily schedule.

“My favorite time of the day is swimming and art class,” Ams said. “I love art and I like to swim underwater.”
