If you love Corvettes and you weren’t at Greenwood Chevrolet July 11, you missed out.

The lots at Austintown’s Greenwood Chevrolet were packed with shiny, well-kept road machines, as the dealership teamed up with the Mahoning Valley Corvette Club for a car show of Corvettes, Antique, Custom, and Hot Rod cars.

The games, food and raffle tickets being sold at the show were all to benefit local resident Mikey Howard, who has leukemia. The entire show was in his honor.

As a result of the show, the club will donate $1,700 to Hospice House for laptops for electronic medical records, $1,700 to the Howard family and $1,000 for college scholarships.

Greenwood officials said there were nearly 150 cars entered to win a variety of show prizes and 110 of the entrants were Corvettes.

However, the lot was full of many more cars not competing for prizes. They were being shown off to appreciative crowds who were free to chat with owners and admire the workmanship of the classic vehicles.

Classic car owner Jack Lopatta said most summers are filled with car shows, and they’re worth going to because “the weather is wonderful, the crowds are friendly, and the cars are beautiful.”
