Church marks anniversary

Rising Star Baptist Church, 2943 Wardle Ave., will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a musical program at 6:30 p.m. Friday featuring First Creation, national recording artist.

First Creation is a Stellar Award nominee who has appeared on the Bobby Jones Gospel Hour.

The event is free and open to the public.

The church also will mark its anniversary with a series of events.

A service, “Remembering the History,” will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

A youth day celebration will be at 2 p.m. July 31 for those 13 years and older.

“Come As You Are Day” service and picnic will be at 10:45 a.m. Aug. 1 at Chestnut Ridge Park in Hubbard.

The Rev. Gary L. Frost, former pastor and current pastor of Evergreen Baptist Church in Bronx, N.Y., will speak at the nontraditional outdoor service.
