The premise of West Austintown United Methodist Church’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social July 17 was pretty simple — good food and good music.

Pastor George Lee and his wife, Trudy, organized the event which included a meal and a concert.

“I think they came for both, actually, because both are wonderful,” said Lee. “But you can’t beat Methodist cooking.”

The menu included sloppy joes, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, apple dumplings, and of course, ice cream.

The crowd paid a small fee for their choice of food, with all of funds raised going toward repainting the church’s sanctuary room.

After the meal, The Glory Bound Gospel Singers and The Larry Clegg Group provided entertainment for the large crowd.

Watching from the back, Janet Lisinki said, “What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday.”
