Boardman Park says aloha to seniors

More than 100 senior citizens gathered together wearing their best Hawaiian outfits and leis for a island-style fun-filled day.

Boardman Park hosted its annual Senior Fun Day Luau July 15 in the Lariccia Family Community Center. This summer mixer has been a park tradition for more than 10 years.

The day began with a game of bingo which carried over into the lunch hour. The lunch menu consisted of Hawaiian chicken, pasta salad, watermelon and cupcakes, as a dessert. Seniors danced and enjoyed the tons of live entertainment provided by John Ruman, of Niles, A contest for best dressed was held and winners were awarded gift baskets.

The luau was co-sponsored by Boardman’s Senior Independence Adult Day Care, Poland’s Sunrise Senior Living, Austintown’s Medical Service Company and the Boardman Park. Senior fun days are held twice monthly in the community center and are open to the public with a reservation fee of $1.

The next senior fun days will be Aug. 19 and Aug. 26.
