The Canfield Lady Cardinals high school basketball team passed their skills on to the next generation at an instructional basketball camp for girls in grades 4 through 9 at Canfield Village Middle School June 15-18.

High school girls varsity basketball coach Pat Pavlansky, eighth-grade girls basketball coach Ken Reel and sophomore, junior and senior Lady Cardinal players taught the 40 or 50 participants basketball skills at stations located throughout the three gyms at the middle school.

“The sophomore, junior and senior players run the stations. This is their chance to give back,” Pavlansky said.

This is the 15th year the camp has been held and Pavlansky, a chemistry teacher at Canfield High School, has been coaching for the same amount of years.

“This camp is offered to teach the kids the fundamentals of basketball. They have been very receptive, and as a coach, I am very excited about this group. The talent level is very high,” Pavlansky said.

Reel, a history teacher at Canfield Village Middle School, has coached the eighth-grade girls basketball team for 25 seasons.
