The Mahoning County grand jury has indicted an 18-year-old city man for the shooting death of a teen girl.

Melvin S. Shaw II, 18, of Idlewood Avenue is charged with the aggravated murder of Tracee Banks, 17, and attempted murder of Jamel Turner, 18, an Ohio State University football recruit. The shooting occurred June 19 at a Manchester Avenue home on the city’s West Side.

The grand jury Thursday also indicted Shaw on two counts of felonious assault and one count of shooting into a home. Each count carries a weapons specification. If convicted, he could face life in prison without parole.

The case received more publicity July 14 when Shaw was arraigned in Youngs-town Municipal Court. After the arraignment, family and friends of Banks and Shaw fought just outside the courtroom.

Police arrested Michael Peace, 38, Wade Shaw, 35, Ovidio Santiago, 40, and Clyde Hudson, 24, for their roles in the brawl.

Isiah Patterson, 21, of McBride Street, carrying concealed weapons.

Vincent Lewis, 37, of Navarre Avenue, Austintown, felonious assault, domestic violence and robbery.

Michelle Burkes, 34, of Francisca Avenue, heroin possession.

Jonathan D. Gibson, 20, of Francisca Avenue, two counts of illegal gun possession.

Kristyn Harris, 21, of Elruth Drive, Girard, heroin possession.

Gary E. Ryan Jr., 23, of West Avondale Avenue, improperly handling a gun in a motor vehicle, illegal gun possession and carrying concealed weapons.

Richard Wright, 30, of Plazaview Court, felonious assault and three counts of kidnapping with firearm and repeat violent offender specifications.

Melanie J. King, 24, of South Hazelwood Avenue, tampering with evidence.

Candice Jackson, 19, of Riley Street, Struthers, burglary.

Joshua R. Christy, 31, of Tippecanoe Road, Canfield, two counts of drug possession.

Ronald J. Chappell, 22, of Mahoning County jail, vandalism and four counts of harassment with a bodily substance.

Michael Whitted, 19, of Mahoning County jail, harassment with a bodily substance and two counts of vandalism.

Justin Harbin, 23, of Market Street, Youngstown, or Rose Street, Salem, nine counts of breaking and entering, three counts of receiving stolen property, five counts of theft, and one count of tampering with evidence.

Austin A. Angeli, 22, of Rose Street, Salem, or Bayard Street, Homeworth, nine counts of breaking and entering, three counts of receiving stolen property, five counts of theft, and one count each of tampering with evidence and burglary.
