The Mahoning County grand jury has indicted an 18-year-old city man for the shooting death of a teen girl.
Melvin S. Shaw II, 18, of Idlewood Avenue is charged with the aggravated murder of Tracee Banks, 17, and attempted murder of Jamel Turner, 18, an Ohio State University football recruit. The shooting occurred June 19 at a Manchester Avenue home on the city’s West Side.
The grand jury Thursday also indicted Shaw on two counts of felonious assault and one count of shooting into a home. Each count carries a weapons specification. If convicted, he could face life in prison without parole.
The case received more publicity July 14 when Shaw was arraigned in Youngs-town Municipal Court. After the arraignment, family and friends of Banks and Shaw fought just outside the courtroom.
Police arrested Michael Peace, 38, Wade Shaw, 35, Ovidio Santiago, 40, and Clyde Hudson, 24, for their roles in the brawl.
