VXI call center to add 500 workers

YOUNGSTOWN

VXI Global Solutions, a call-center company, has agreed to expand at the city-owned 20 Federal Place building and hire about 500 more workers.

The Los Angeles-based company currently employs about 500 to 600 workers on the fourth floor of the building at 20 W. Federal St. It will expand to the building’s fifth floor as part of a $2.7 million project.

City council last month approved legislation to loan $2 million to the company for up to 12 months with an interest rate of 0.25 percent as well as give $650,000 — $350,000 in cash and $300,000 in utility improvements — to VXI as incentives to get the company to expand here.

Mayor Jay Williams said Wednesday he’s excited that VXI chose Youngstown for the expansion project.
