The American Cancer Society is offering four speaker’s bureau training sessions over the next few weeks in the Northeast Ohio Region for volunteers who would like to make presentations to community groups, clubs, churches and other agencies to educate the public about how to prevent or reduce a person’s risk of cancer.
The upcoming dates, times and locations of local speaker’s bureau trainings are: Tuesday, 6 p.m., Trinity Medical Center East, 380 Summit Ave., Steubenville; Aug. 5, 6 p.m., American Cancer Society Office, 525 North Broad St., Canfield.

Food giveaway

Fundraiser
YOUNGSTOWN
Art Youngstown’s inaugural “SketchCrawl,” a fundraiser for The Purple Cat and Art Youngstown, is July 31 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Lemon Grove Cafe, 122 Federal Plaza West. The event is open to all area artists, who will meet at the cafe at noon to sign in, walk downtown or to Mill Creek or anywhere they chose to do their sketching, and then meet back at the cafe at 3 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Call RoseMary at 330-233-0542. Money is raised by the artists who obtain sponsors for the time they work. All artists need to bring a sketchbook, pencil or watercolors, and money raised for the event.
CPR classes
BOARDMAN
The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley offering several CPR classes at its facility in the Adamas Plaza, 8381 Market St., Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and July 31 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The $35 fee includes hands-on skills, a participant manual for each student to keep and American Red Cross certification. Classes are open to everyone 14 or older.
Grant received
YOUNGSTOWN
The St. Elizabeth Health Center diabetes education department recently received a $10,000 grant from the Ohio State Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E.).
The money will be used to replace furniture, which will be more suitable for the classroom setting and provide a better learning atmosphere.
Survivors picnic
YOUNGSTOWN
Humility of Mary Health Partners (HMHP) cancer survivors are invited to enjoy lunch, games, music, crafts, prizes and giveaways during one of two picnics to be held in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
The Mahoning County picnic is from 12:30 to 3 p.m., Aug. 20, at Boardman Park Community Center, 375 Boardman-Poland Road.
The Trumbull County picnic is 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 27, St. Demetrios Pavilion, 3223 Atlantic St. NE in Warren.
Each survivor may bring one guest and only attend one picnic.
