POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

July 19

Theft: A Washington Avenue woman discovered a $2,000 wedding band missing.

Theft: A Girard man reported his $200 bicycle stolen at a North State Street business.

July 20

Theft: Police charged Tatiana R. Smith, no age or city listed, in the theft of two boxes of medication and another item from Santisi’s IGA Super Center, 419 N. State St.

Theft: A woman returned to her Girard home and realized that a debit card and money were missing, likely stolen while she was in Craig Beach.

July 21

Identity fraud: A Lawrence Avenue man found out someone had made a fraudulent $1,556 purchase with his credit card.

LIBERTY

July 17

Arrest: Police pulled over a vehicle near Gypsy Lane, then took 31-year-old David Brown, 234 Crandall Ave., Youngstown, into custody upon learning he was wanted on six counts of driving under suspension. Brown also was wanted on a warrant from Mahoning County.

Burglary/assault: Officers responded to a residence in the 1600 block of Crumrine Avenue, where they found a 62-year-old man bleeding from the nose and face. The man said he had been punched in the face during a brief struggle with someone who tried to force his way into a bedroom to collect money, a report said.

Arrest: Police picked up 48-year-old John J. Paul, 250 Washington Blvd., Boardman, at the Mahoning County jail. Paul was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the township.

Summons: Officers issued a summons to 18-year-old Danielle Spitler, 39463 state Route 558, Leetonia, charging her with violating the township’s noise ordinance after saying that while in her vehicle on Colonial Drive, she turned up the music too loud on several occasions.

Theft: A 34-year-old Campbell man was accused in, but not charged with, the theft of fishing lure, a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey and another item from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road.

July 18

Aggravated menacing: A Fifth Avenue man reported receiving an e-mail stating he would be killed unless he paid someone $70,000.

Breaking and entering: To a garage in the 6300 block of Sodom-Hutchings Road. A 5,500-watt gas generator, a power washer and tools were stolen, for a $2,005 loss.

Theft: Kenneth L. Staples, 48, of 207 Curry Place, Youngstown, was charged with stealing an 18-piece hair-clipping kit from Dollar General in the Liberty Plaza. Staples also was wanted on a warrant from Franklin County charging him with possession of drugs.

Theft: A man reported his wallet and cell phone missing while at a Belmont Avenue fast-food restaurant.

Robbery: A security officer with Rite Aid Pharmacy, 2704 Belmont Ave., reported a 43-year-old Hubbard woman he attempted to detain tried to strike him after a bottle of body lotion had been stolen. The woman fled in a vehicle.

July 19

Assault: A man reported another man grabbed his neck at a Belmont Avenue eatery.

Theft: A charge was pending against a Youngstown woman, 44, after five video games, three DVDs, an Xbox controller and clothing were stolen from Walmart.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 10 block of Scott Lane kicked, dented and caused $2,500 of damage to a car’s rear quarter-panel.

Theft: Three shoplifters fled in a Buick Regal from Big Lots, 3491 Belmont Ave., and led police on a vehicular pursuit.

Drug paraphernalia: Travis R. Cross, 26, of 1500 Difford Drive, Niles, faced charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, having no operator’s license and operating an unsafe vehicle when, officers said, a suspected crack pipe was found during a traffic stop on state Route 193.

Theft: Janet L. Clay, 43, of 640 Fairgreen Ave., Youngstown, was charged with stealing health and beauty products from Dollar General.

Arrest: Authorities took custody of 31-year-old Matthew J. Crowl, 513 Cherry St., Salem, who was wanted by township police on charges of theft and criminal trespassing.

Burglary: Through the front door of an apartment in the 2900 block of Oakland Drive, where a $500 laptop computer was stolen.

July 20

Burglary: Twenty DVDs were taken from a residence in the 30 block of Tuttle Lane.

Stolen property: Police got a report of a missing automated-teller-machine card, then charged 18-year-old Anthony K. Willig, 1711 Lincoln Ave., Girard, with receiving stolen property, theft and attempted theft. Walmart video surveillance showed someone who resembled Willig trying to buy a TV with the card, a report said.

Burglary: To a Holly Drive apartment through a rear door. A Wii game system and accessories, a debit card and other items were stolen, for an estimated $1,270 loss.

Theft: The rear license plate was removed from a vehicle in the 200 block of Goldie Road.

July 21

Theft: Charges were pending against three Youngstown girls, 14, 16 and 17, who Walmart officials detained after $163 worth of merchandise had been stolen.

HUBBARD

July 16

Theft: A Drummond Avenue man reported the theft of a debit card and checks.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 1400 block of West Liberty Street had a broken rear window.

July 17

Vehicle theft: A motorcycle was stolen in the 500 block of North Main Street.

Auto theft: A West Park Avenue woman reported her 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche missing.

July 18

Arrest: Beaver Township police handed Bobbi Frazzini, no information provided, to Hubbard authorities. Frazzini was accused of failing to appear for a pretrial hearing related to a disorderly-conduct charge.

July 19

Menacing: An East Liberty Street boy reported a neighbor threatened him.

Assault: A Westview Drive woman told police her uncle beat her up.

Theft: Mail was removed from a mailbox in the 300 block of Jacobs Road.

July 20

Fraud: A Westview Avenue woman reported the fraudulent use of her Visa card.

Fraud: A West Liberty Street man found out someone accessed his account to rent a vehicle in Greece.
